Yesterday I picked up my dad in Dayton and we headed Northeast to chase the Derby Train / NS 955 back toward Dayton and Cincinnati. We guestimated the time it would be in Mansfield and didn't think we could intercept it any further east. This extra time cost me about $200 at a quick stop at the the Train Station Hobby Shop in Columbus (along the Sandusky Dist) but what could I do?

1) Mansfield, my dad and I got up here early and found and chased this Flxible. Keep in mind Flxible was located in Loudenville, not far from here.

This was formerly the Conrail Ft Wayne Line. I don't know what NS now calls this line now or what division it is part of, or radio frequency?

NS 955 Derby Train passing through CP Mans at Mansfield, this is where the Erie mainline used to cross the PRR. I had to get pictures here as I fried a relay in a Sperry car, losing the forward movement while testing through this interlocker back in 1996.
2, 3) I didn't know which shot I liked more, so here's both.

4, 5) Passing the Mansfield local, light set of units. Note the Clear signal at West Mans where the PRR crossed the B & O Lake Erie Sub, now Ashland Railroad. By Mansfield around 6:20 pm
6) Mansfield local getting a restrictive on the PRR position lights.

7-10) Colsan / Bucyrus. The Derby Train stopped to set off the roadmaster from Pittsburgh and pick up another from Columbus. There were around a dozen people here taking pictures. Arv 7:10

Routing through Columbus, via NS Sandusky Dist went through the new Connection (I don't know the name of) to CSX (Former Conrail Columbus Line), through CP 138 Columbus CP 138 at 9:10. , straight past Scioto, continuing West on the NS Dayton Dist toward Dayton.

If you know the names of the stuff in italics and lime green   let me know. I have no recent post Conrail split ETTs covering Columbus.

On the Dayton District
NS 955 went past CP 138 former sight of Columbus Union Station at 9:10.
16) Hague RD at 9:18.
17) Cole Rd around CP 146
I guess I should mention that I was letting dad use the tri-pod for video, sorry about the shakyness. I liked to have seen (16) with the tripod used.

Thats where we headed back for Dayton.

It went past MP 213 here in Moraine where my mom and dad live at 12:30 am and still sounded good. I stayed up in Moraine for a little while and started home. The Derby Train went by NA Tower around 2 am. Amtrak 51 left CUT at 1:50 am according to their website. I didn't see Amtrak 51 pass the NS 955 but it probably happened and would have been sweet to have seen. Not too hard to watch what's going on from I-75 but you're still driving I-75.

18) I saw the Derby Train going through NA Tower and thought I would get this year's night shot. This was going under the Western hills Viaduct into Gest Street Yard.

I think my dad may be hooked on the NS F units now. I have a feeling we will be starting out in Altoona or more likely Horseshoe Curve next year.

Thanks for looking.

Jim
