A Eastbound rack train, either 283 or 285) derailed 20 or so cars West of Princeton Indiana this morning.  No real updates as of yet, and not know if the mainline is back open.

I saw an Eastbound autorack train sitting in the New Baden siding this afternoon about 4.  The funny thing about it was , there were about 7 autorack cars by themselves about 300 ft in front of this train in the siding as well.  So what was going on there is unknown.

New Baden  is about 120 miles West of Princeton.

Keep us updated!!!

Found this piece of info from the St. Louis TV Station, KSDK-TV:

(KSDK) - A section of Norfolk Southern Railroad was shut down Saturday after a train derailment in southern Illinois.

The derailment happened Saturday morning just before 5:00 in the town of Posey.

Railroad officials say a freight train and 14 cars derailed.

The accident left the track inpassable, but no other roads were affected.

None of the cars were leaking hazardous material, and there were no injuries.

The NS website says that it could be a 24 hour delay in traffic because of the derailment. Could be a very slow day Sunday on the Louisville Dst.

I just came from the scene, there were about 10 cars that I could see on the ground.  There were 3 autoracks w/Toyotas aboard,  3 white tank cars, and a SP Box car.  They were still laying the sections of track down and the ballast train was waiting in Posey by the elevator.

The derailment scene was about 3 miles East of Posey at milepost 54.  The way it looked, they were going to be there awhile.  I might go back tommorow morning to see what has happened overnight.

I have photos and video from tonight, I will put them on here shortly.

I took these photos back in March of 2005 and this is the exact location wear the derailment happened.  It is sort of an S-curve coming out of the woods.

Here are some day shots that I took of the NS derailment near Posey, IL that happened on the NS St. Louis District/NS Illinois Division on the early morning of 02/03/07.   They are running trains through the there as of this morning(02/04/07).  When I arrived this morning NS #111 just went through, then I caught NS #167 creeping at 10 mph through derailment scene.  NS #285 was just leaving New Baden heading for Posey as well.  The cars inside the auto racks were Mitsubishi?s not Toyota?s as I had mentioned before.  The tank cars were still full but did not rupture, some were filled with phosphorus and others with something else.  Some cars that were put back on the rails were taken to a siding in Hoffman, IL just for precaution in case of a leak.  I do not know what train is was nor do I know the locomotive #?s on the train due to them being  gone before I arrived.

Here are the photos of the derailment scene:
