Today was one of those days where everything seemed to go right. The Erie was leading 74J down the Louisville District, a surprising CN Blue Devil on 50X, the Wabash on 44X and UP 7964 on NS 295. After getting off school at 2, I raced down to the wye to catch the Blue Devil but happened to run straight into the Erie instead. After getting the Erie at South Wye, not 5 minutes later, 50X cleared North Wye and started south.

I got 50X at South Danville with Joe Nugent and John Southworth (JS_IN_KY), lucky for us, the crew was nice enough to turn on the marker lights before they took off. I went up to the bridge down the road to get the Erie passing the South Danville searchlights. After getting 74J at South Danville and sadly watching it tie down at Bowen. We headed down to Burgin to catch 295 with the 5000th UP GEVO.

I went home after the GEVO and waited for the Wabash to make an appearance. After 4 hours, it finally showed up to fuel in the yard at Danville. After a few quick shots, I went back home. I think I should give up railfanning after the day I had  :D

We waited around Danville for a while but gave up on waiting for the Wabash, it was getting too late and it's a long drive home from Danville.  Still not a bad day, good weather and we saw some good stuff, everything but the unit we intended to see.  Maybe we can catch it if it comes back north out of Louisiana.  I can't get that one during the day for anything.

Nice shots, Butch. Regarding the LMS unit, is she a former CR unit?
Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

Matt,  It was originally a LMSX lease unit that now retains the LMS blue (same as Conrail blue) and has IC reporting marks.  The only C40-8W's in that paint with the IC reporting marks are 2455-2466.

Ooops... sorry John. I should be crediting you for those nice photos. Thanks for the info on the LMSX unit.

Matt,  Gage (trainchaser2) took the photos that are posted here.  I shot the CN unit, Erie and UP unit too but haven't had time to download the images yet.  Unfortunately we had to head home before 44X got to Danville so I didn't shoot the Wabash.  I've tried for a long time to get a good shot of the NS 1070 and the two times before we've seen that unit it ended up being at night too.  I'm hoping to catch it if and when it comes north on the empty grain train but it probably won't lead then.
