Thursday 02/28/13, thanks to some good reporting here on Jreb, I was able to get out after work and catch NS 224, which had the UP 1996 Southern Pacific Heritage unit leading.

The UP's pretty paint jobs dont seem to stray all that much off home rails, and this is only the 3rd that I have had the chance to photograph so far. While the UP units are unique with the "post modern" twist given to old paint schemes, I still think the NS Heritage units are much more attractive (but that may be a very biased opinion as well!)

In any case, it was great to be able to get another one of these and not have to travel far to do it. I was able to leave work at 1500, shoot the train 4 times and still get home before dark! Here are a few samples, and you can find a few more (in higher resolution) over on Pbase, just follow this link!  >>>>> http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/ls13eb

After sitting in the siding at Talmage KY for a couple of hours due to train 285 being delayed by a detector stop, NS 224 passes the signal and crosses the bridge at Salvisa, KY, just up the road from Jreb World HQ.

Espee 1996 brings NS 224 up the steep hill at East Waddy, KY

Eastbound 111 is in the hole at Waddy, as 224 eases by them on the mainline.

The sun on the SP logo there on the nose of the 1996 was the only sun to be seen on a blustery winters day. The weather didn't stop several folks besides myself from getting out for a while though.

NS 224 holds the main at West Waddy for 111 to clear up, and to let the crew grab some grub from the famous Waddy General store (Best roast beef sandwich in Shelby county!)

I really love that first shot. Great catch and other shots, as well, EM!

Awesome catch and neat photo series! Glad you didn't have to travel far, always makes a difference.

I think this unit and the 2010 BSA unit are my favorite of the UP special paint jobs.
