This past weekend was my first chance to experience NS running through the colors of autumn in 2012. The Southern Tier Mainline was a great place to be.

First on deck: NS 205 (I think) heading eastbound at CP Linden.

All photos in this post were taken by me Saturday 10/62012 at the Molasses Hill Road crossing in Linden, NY.

I headed down to Letchworth State Park the following day, and caught eastbound NS/CP 38T crossing the Portage bridge in the morning.

Letchworth Park itself yielded up couple of interesting shots. A trail on the east side of the Genesee River gorge is a forner PRR ROW. There are a few signs of the route's past, including these rails at the edge of the cliff.

The Portage bridge can be seen above falls, as well. This is an ancient ex-Erie RR bridge built in 1875. it was damaged in a flood about 40 years ago... and NS may actually replace with a new span soon.

Finally, I caught an early afternoon run of an eastbound NS manifest freight. Due to the presence of auto racks, I think this train was 205 (just like the train I saw a day earlier).

All photos in this post were taken by me Sun 10/7/2012 at Portageville Road in Portage, NY. After this train passed, I went home to experience the anguish of the Buffalo Bills getting crsuhed at San Francisco. I guess should've stayed down at Letchworth to catch another train or two!
