I was down in the Southern Tier region of upstate NY a couple days ago... and caught a few shots while travelling to a family gathering.

Among other things, I caught a trio of GEs working the west end of the yard at Gang Mills:

After that, I moved up to the eastern end of the yard, where I found an FRA inspection train parked on a siding. I also found an Operation Lifesaver Geep and a pair of six axle EMDs. One of the SD40-2s was #3410, which had led H06 north to Geneva 2 weeks earlier. I couldn't help wondering if she and the high nose SD40-2 would be making the trip that evening... but I couldn't stay to find out.

All photos in this post taken by me Sunday 6/24/2012 in Gang Mills, NY.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

I figured my train shots would be over when I got the party... but no... I managed to capture one more train shot. Sitting in the hills above the City of Elmira, I heard a distant train horn and managed to get a shot of train in the valley below. Can you see it?

I believe I see "Waldo" dead center, right above that red-ish block thingy. Dan :)

That's part of it... but the train is even more visible in another part of the pic.
