Thanks once again to plenty of advanced notice here on Jreb about the Central Georgia 8101 leading train 50A South yesterday, I bagged my 3rd heritage unit. After an early morning at work, I left early and got home in time to change clothes, grab the camera and get trackside with plenty of time to ....Wait....and then wait some more...

50A departed Cincinnati around 10 yesterday morning, and was following the Southbound fleet of piggies and stacks. It looked like they would get down to Danville Ky in the early afternoon, which would mean a great chase South. As luck would have it, one of those hot stack trains would see that would not happen. NS 215 was the last of the intermodal fleet, and they had a report of a container with "bad Westward lean" around Lexington. The bottom container had partially collapsed on one side, making the top one lean, and after an inspection, they where instructed to run 25mph all the way to Danville. That was enough to back up trains everywhere, and the 50A got some serious delay in the process.

I hung out at the wye for awhile and watch the cut there start to get shadowed in the late afternoon sun. I moved North a little ways to Burgin KY and waited some more, but that move netted my favorite shot of the day. After that, I followed them on into Danville for a shot, then one ended the day with a couple of shots of them crossing the bridge at Southfork.

All of the images from the HOT afternoon can be found in high res in my Heritage unit gallery at Pbase, just click the link. Below are some smaller versions.  Pbase link >>>>  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/gallery/ocs12

NS 50a at Burgin Ky. The second shot here is my favorite from the day...check out the big version on Pbase!

After Burgin, I got them again at a location I have not shot in many years, South Danville, from the US 127 bridge. This is not a place to stop at on a quiet Sunday morning, much less during rush hour. The sun was perfect, and those unique triple headed GRS searchlight signals are living on borrowed time..sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do!

And the last shots of the day, as 50A crossed the Green River bridge at Southfork, KY. It was 95 degree's and humid down in that valley, but the results where worth the heat I guess!

Nice job Mr.Bell, both views from 127 took some skill. I'm hearing you on the filters, I never used them and wish I would have left them off my digitals. Live and learn. Anyway I did  OK with 8101 early in the day, sweet looking engine.
