I headed out of town to see my family for Easter weekend... and also managed to spend some time trackside while I was in NY's Southern Tier region.

Day #1 was spent at CP Cass. I can often tell when NS/CP 38T is coming because the crew seems to blow the horn more often than other eastbound trains on the Southern Tier Mainline. Indeed, it was 38T.

The next sighting was eastbound coal train NS 532:

Eastbound 14T had its power running elephant style:

Westbound 23K had a pair of UP units, plus one NS wide cab trailing:

Wwstbound 12T was rather short:

For the entire day at CP Cass, please vivsit mty slide show:

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

The next day was nastier, with wet snow making for lousy roads. Even so, I was out and about.

Restored Erie REA car behind Sullivan's Diner in Horseheads, on a short stub of a former Lehigh Valley RR branchline:

I had my first SD90MAC sighting with NS 12T heading westbound at Philo Road in Horsehads:

Westbound hopper train 533, also at Phil Road in Horseheads:

i was hoping to catch the Bath & Hammondsport RR on Day #3, but they didn't run because 12T (seen above) didn't drop off anything at Gang Mills for them. I turned lemons in lemonade by chasing NS13T eastward through the Canisteo River valley. BTW, it had same power form 12T.
