Im late getting these posted but here are my shots from the Grundy trips on Sunday 4-13. It was well worth the deathmarch involved to get them. I didn't find out that I was going to be able to make it till 1100p on Saturday night and I had already been up for 40 of the prior 48 hours. That little 2-8-0 put on one heck of a show all day on a line that hadn't seen steam since the N&W dieselization in the late 50s early 60s.

Anyway here are the shots. The full set can be found here: http://southernrailsphotography.smugmug.com/Trains/Southern-630-Grundy-Trips/38643981_mMMfsF

After working through Weller Yard at Restricted Speed, 630 accelerates out of the yard past a Consol Energy coal train and a SunCoke coke train on the morning run.

The 1904 Alco built Ks-1 was working hard by the time they made it up to Lynn Camp. The sight and sound was unrivaled by anything I had ever seen.

After turning on the wye at Ought One, 630 charges back up the grade toward Grundy as she leads her train over the Lower Elk Creek in Woodman, KY.

Piles of coal awaiting export at the loadout at Hurley, VA stand tall over the train as it rounds the sweeping curve headed for Ought One on the afternoon trip.

This was the final shot of the day and a shot that only 4 people including myself were brave enough to get. 630 is about to top the 1.7% grade at Virginia Lee and into Raitt Tunnel below us to get to the other side of the mountain. This was shot from the top of the north tunnel portal and required descending a VERY steep mountain side and then attempting to drag my big butt back to the top. But the result was worth it.
