I spent at least part of each weekend by the tracks last month. This is the final installment of what proved to be an interesting adventure.

Westbound NS mixed freight 309 arrived at the Molasses Hill Road corssing around mid-morning.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

Later in the morning, I moved over to Dry Bridge Road. Appropriately, the road's name refers to the bridge over the former Erie RR Buffalo Division. Eventually, I heard a horn in the west... and waited very patiently for a train that took a long time to arrive. Eastbound 13T  had a very long consist and it crawled up Attica Hill.

All photos in this post were taken by me near MP 388 on the Southern Tier Manline in the Town of Alexander, NY on Saturday 10/26/2013.

The EMD and the GE pulling 13T were straining quite a bit with their heavy load as they went up the hill. It was easy to get ahead of the train and catch it on a flatter section of track at MP 380.

Both photos in this post were taken by me Saturday 10/26/2013 in Dale, NY. There was an interesting post-script to this chase. A couple of my friends caught 13T further east. Due to the extra tonnage added at Gang Mills (especially a cut of salt loads from Ithaca) 13t was split. Numbers 1018 and 9875 seen in this thread lead the first section to Allentown, while NS heritage unit #8114 led the extra section M3T. Indeed, it was the heritage sighting referenced in this thread: http://www.jreb.org/ns/index.php?topic=15302.0

A special thanks goes out to Callduckfarm and the NS Corning NY fan group on Facebook for the confirmation.  8)

Nice series of photos. I bet the exhaust sounded pretty awesome from the perch you had on the bridge.

Thank you. Yes, the exhaust sounded great on Dry Bridge. The roar from the two engines mixed together quite well. For music fans, it was like having a nice clean Stratocaster (the EMD) and a dirty overdriven Les Paul (the GE) playing in the same band. What a sound!  8)
