Another holiday- another excuse to take a couple of detours while driving to visit family and friends! Of course, the NS junction at CP Cass in Hornell was on the list!

My first sighting was this westbound freight coming off the old Erie/EL mainline and onto the Buffalo Extension:

With auto racks and stacks in the mix, I'm pretty sure the westbound freight was 23K:

A few hours passed between trains. In the meantime, I was treated to this MOW truck:

Around mid-afternoon, I heard a horn... which was accompanying an eastbound freight coming down the Buffalo Extension into Hornell.

Widecabs lead the mixed freight towards the Cass Street crossing:

I think the eastbound train was 12T:

In the late afternoon, 13T rumbled past the former Erie depot after pausing to switch a small yard on the east side of Hornell:

With widcabs being so common these days, it was nice to see a standard cab GE leading the mixed freight westward:

NS does not own any Alcos, but the trailing widecab was trying to compensate by pouring out lots of smoke!

The following day was hectic, so I was not able to get into position to photograph 23K in Corning, a light engine move at Gibson or H06 coming off the Southern Tier Mainline in North Corning. I did, however, capture 13T westbound crossing over Winter Road in Big Flats:

There was a former Conrail unit in dress blue sandwiched between the two black NS units:

I really enjoyed the MARC passenger coach at the tail end of the train- it's the best kind of FRED!

The coach was probably going to be dropped off at either Gang Mills or Hornell. If Gang Mills, NS would hand it off to the Bath & Hammondsport RR, which services a TTA facility in Kanona, NY, If Hornell, then NS would drop it off for the Almstom plant that occupies the former Erie/EL shops there.
