on vacation this week I stayed several days in and around Lawrenceburg, (our fair city) and got to watch a GE actually run and switch on the same day. I miss seeing the gp50's here but this still beats widebodies, but only barely. I couldnt catch any good shots of the t19 but slipped on down to versailles and caught a few poor weather shots of the N&W gp9, very classy in my opinion.  More importantly on this trip I saw two people, one was a volunteer at BGRM named Art. It was neat to get to talk to someone with such knowledge of older railroad history and then back in lawrenceburg I got to see my old childhood hero.  I'll call him Mr. H for sake of anyonimity. I used to see him daily as a child, and he's nearly solely to blame for my career in railroading, he'd lost his crooked little pipe he carried back then but he still was Mr. H to me. with the depot being removed from town it didnt provide for such a nostalgic backdrop to our conversation like it did as a child, but hey , we got to both talk about railroading, and thats what it was all about.  A childhood dream fulfilled.
"The engineer in the old high cab his gold watch in his hand, looking at the waterglass and letting down the sand, rolling out on the old main line taking up the slack, gone today so they say but tomorrow he'll be back...."

"Mr. H" was also a major influence on my during my childhood (also being born and raised in Lawrenceburg) and was one of the big reasons I went to work for the RR back then. You wont find a better fellow.
