Norfolk & Western historian Thomas D. Dressler dies at 71

September 10, 2007

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Funeral services were held today in Portsmouth for
Thomas D. Dressler, 71, well known for as a historian of the Norfolk &
Western Railway. He died Sept. 1 in Tucson, Ariz. Dressler had an
encyclopedic knowledge of the Norfolk & Western Railway, was a major
figure in the N&W Historical Society, an expert on N&W steam, a former
N&W and Norfolk Southern engineer, and a lifelong model railroader. He
wrote scores of articles on the N&W for magazines such as the
Locomotive Cyclopedia, Mainline Modeler, Model Railroader, O Scale
News, Railroad Model Craftsman, Railfan and Railroad, and Trains. He
was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Portsmouth, Ohio, an N&W division point
where lines to Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio, diverged. His two sons
and two grandsons survive him.
