Construction crews are busy preparing the Goode and McKinnon buildings as employees begin relocating from Roanoke to Atlanta and Norfolk.

Norfolk Southern's decision to close its Roanoke office building coincided with a planned revamp of the Goode Building. David Goodson, senior manager facilities services, said the goal is to create a more contemporary, open, collaborative work environment that will take shape in four phases through mid-2017. Every floor will be refurbished, lavatories and heating and cooling systems will be upgraded, and it will all be topped off with a new roof. With ongoing renovations, some employees have moved into leased space in Colony Square across Peachtree Street from the Goode Building.

Renovations in the McKinnon Building will lead to more modern, collaborative work spaces, with most of the remodeling taking place on the first, fourth, and eighth floors, said Andy Paul, senior manager energy and facility services.

As previously announced, Atlanta-bound positions previously based in Roanoke are in accounting operations, information technology, coal transportation, and audit and compliance positions involving information systems, revenue-related process, and functions related to Atlanta-based departments. Transitioning to Norfolk are employees in industrial products, coal marketing, and audit and compliance positions involving corporate accounting, sourcing, taxation, and treasury.
