Last weekend got off to a good start a day early, using some vacation time to chase trains.

The Bath & Hammondsport RR sent one their Alco C424ms and their RS18u to fetch a string of tank cars from NS.

All photos in this post were taken by me Saturday 6/20/2014 at Hamilton Street in Painted Post, NY.

After spending some time with the B&H, I caught a special high and wide move south of the NY/PA border.

NS local H12 arrived while I was there, and it had a nice BNSF unit in the power mix.

H12 meets the special move, as seen from a restored Leigh Valley RR caboose on display near the tracks.

All of my shots from the former Lehigh Valley RR yard can be seen in this slideshow:

All photos in this post and the link were taken by me Friday 6/20/2014 in Sayre, PA. This was the first time I've seen 2 trains in that yard since maybe 1980 (the early days of Conrail).

Later in the day, I enjoyed watching NS local H06 climb the grade west of Seneca Lake on its trip from COrning to Geneva:

All photos shown above in this post were taken at the County Route 29 crossing in Reading, NY.

For the entire chase of H06, including twilight shots, please enjoy this slideshow:

All photos in the link were taken by me Friday 6/20/2014 in central NY.  A special thanks goes out to the employees of the B&H RR for their professionalism and courtesy.

The C424m was part of Alcos's first batch of C424s, which were built for the Erie Lackawanna in 1963.  Although EL stopped using class lights a few years later, they survived Conrail, the D&H (which rebuilt the C424s in 1980) and Guilford. I do not know if the class lights still operate on either the C424m or the RS18u.
