On Saturday November 9th while out chasing the Southern 630 trip in Alabama, we got lucky and had a good EMD day (I hate when that happens) :)

We managed to find a couple of Southbounds on the NS while waiting on the 630, and then later on in the afternoon paid a quick visit to the Alabama & Tennessee River Railway yard at Gasden. Both of the NS train had EMD leaders, and the ATN is a EMD lovers paradise with tunnel motors and older geeps (including a somewhat rare GP20)

Here are a few random shots from that day, and the rest of them are at this link if you care to look.  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/railshorts13

Our first shot of the day was at Rising Fawn, Ga while waiting on the 630 to get down to us. I didnt catch the train number, but here is a Southbound on the AGS North with a matched set of former Conrail SD60I's. The sun would be gone before the rear end went by, making this the ONLY sunny shot of the day

While we waited for the 630 to leave Attala, we ran over to pay a quick visit to the ATN yard. They always have a bunch of power sitting around on the weekend, and are usually pretty friendly. First up was NS 179 with a SD70Ace leading, seen here crawlinging across the ATN diamond at Attalla.

"Bleeding Heritage"  The quick dip of basic black paint on ATN 7371 is starting to fade, letting the scarlet red SP paint on the nose bleed through. This unit is former SP  8466 / 7371

ATN 2002, a GP20 originally built as SSW (Cotton Belt) 811 still in the old Omnitrax paint.
