Home from Nebraska for the holidays, so yesterday I went on the hunt for the first time in almost six months. Went to Willoughby for the evening and only saw 3 movements in the three hours I was there.
1) One of them was a NS classic, with SD40-2s 3277 & 3392 sandwiching GP38-2 5320. Seeing that the sun was setting and the West End was empty I touched Sevier and settled at Mascot on the East End. Traffic was good, got setup for a northbound, messed up the shot.
2) Setup for the southbound signal. Then messed up the head end of the southbound coal drag (SD70ACe 1040 leading),
3) I finally got the shot on the DPU.
4) After a while with no trains: no scanner, no gloves, clueless and frozen, I grabbed a few more shots and headed for home. Not too soon, as the snow really came down after I left.
Happy 2012 everyone!

Hey JT-

Nice shots, I like the ones with the signals.

My dad and I were out yesterday as well, although I think out trip was ending just as yours began.  We caught a total of just 1 train in over 3 hours.  It was truly one of the most pathetic railfan outings I've ever been on.  I decided to explore the Bristol Line east out of Sevier Yard (just as you did) after catching 112 at West Sevier.  The line was completely dead... as in door nail.  We made it out to Jefferson City before having to turn around and head back to Turkey Creek for dinner.  Even going back through Knoxville, the only thing I heard was a northbound on CSX (Q042, apparently he ran early like I said he might).  I couldn't have caught him even if I tried, so we drove on towards food tired and discouraged.

The Bristol Line has some awesome shots available though.  I would really like to spend a whole day out there.  I was surprised that there wasn't even just 1 train out and about yesterday (apparently they all came out for JT), so that leads me to my question:

What are the best (busiest) times and days for the Bristol Line?  Any information from anybody is appreciated.

CSX you know there is a nice Hobby Town in Turkey Creek beside HH Gregg. They have a lot of nice NS stuff. As for the Bristol line I go through there at all differant times and there is us-rally train everywhere or nothing.

The last shot is excellent.  Good work.
