I have been working on getting all of our pictures from last weeks road trip to PA, MD and WV processed, and have been doing Carmon s first, but I did these two of mine just because....

We had been hanging out on the back deck of the Tunnel Inn at Gallitzin PA watching the trains go up and down the mountain, and I got the camera out to play. The Inn has several spot lights set up just above track level at the West end of the Tunnel. The Westbounds are always down to 15 mph or so as the climb the mountain, and all the Eastbounds would stop right in front of us before starting down the mountain.

My Canon 50D is well known for its awesome performance in low light, and I have used it for tons of night shots, but always with a tripod. What you see below was shot hand held, ISO 3200  F3.5 at 1/10th and 1/6 shutter speed. Post processing was basic RAW conversion with cropping, sizing and unsharp mask in Photoshop.  The only thing I cant figure out is what the white, rectangular "ghost" is in both images towards the bottom..

We managed to shoot a C91 off the Portage branch on Friday afternoon...in the middle of one massive thunderstorm. I got a couple of shots of them on the branch and One at Casandra, and got soaked to the bone in the process. At the last shot, by the time the rear of the train was by the rain was over and the sun was out...go figure..

I will start working up all my pics soon...maybe next week. I have a big company function to shoot over the weekend and  that will take the priority for now..
