"Let the madness begin..." that's what my lawyer says when he performs as the singer in an Ozzy Osbourne tribute band. As you probably just figured out, I have some interesting friends. So... when the Blizzard Of Ozz was booked to play in greater Buffalo recently, I made an adventure out of it- trains by day and heavy metal by night. Needless to say, a good time was had by yours truly!

I found found NS's eastbound mixed freight 316 idling on the Bison Runner with ALOT of power- all the engines were running. (I walked by them all to make sure.)

The 4th engine in 316 was a former lease unit. This SD40-2 looks like a graffiti artist numbered her.

Yard job H50 was shuffling auto racks, and ventured out onto the Bsino Runner.

After H50 went back to Bison Yard, 316 got under way.

Got questions? I can help you with the Erie Lackawanna (including predecessors), Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson and the shortlines of upstate NY.

An eastbound NS intermodal passes the clearance detectors near Lake Avenue in the afternoon:

BTW, I think this train may have been 22K, but I'm not 100% sure.

I ended the day out at Bayview Road, where CSX and NS run side by side. Although CSX is the busier line there, I did snag shots of 3 NS trains.

This eastbound intermodal may have been I2K, as 22K has been known to run with a 2nd section at times.

This westbound intermodal freight with a pair of BNSF units was probably NS 23K.

Finally, I have no idea what this train was at all. It was an eastbound unt ocvered hopper train, which is not any source lists for NS trains running through western NY. Oh well, it looked good.

On his days off, he and his son like to railfan, too. No surprise there, as watching trains in greater Buffalo is rarely boring.

And yes, the Ozzy tribute show was also quite fun. I think I owe my lawyer a beer or two for booking the show that drew me out there again.
