How in the world did I forget about getting this ballast train over at Dickinson about two weeks ago.
I believe this was the 92Z that brought the ballast train into town. Four locomotives on this train with two NS units bracketing two former BN/BNSF SD40-2s.

This photo was taken from the overpass leading over to the high school.

Last but certainly not least...
One of the rarest units on the Norfolk Southern roster brings up the rear on this all EMD lashup. NS 2873 is the last unit on this ballast train as it sets at Dickinson Yard. This unit is one of only five GP38ACs of Southern Railway heritage left on the NS roster. Who knows, it may be the last GP38AC in mainline service on NS.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Great catch. These are getting scarce. And as a bonus this one seem to have good paint on it.

Judging by the condition of the paint and the P3 on the hoods. It looks like they plan on keeping this one around a while.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

where is Dickinson ?

On the West Virginia Secondary, former Conrail and NYC. West of Charleston, WV

It's actually southeast of Charleston, about a mile from the town of Belle along US 60.
