Unable to make it up to the Bristol trips a few weeks back, we decided to use a day and make the unexpected trip up to Grundy for a day of steam trips. Sometimes fate just works out wonderfully!

Rolling into Dismal at around 7:20am, we were welcomed by the sight of coal smoke filling the valley and 630 departing the yard to bring its train up to Grundy to board. We caught it a few times rolling west, and then scouted out some for the morning trip. Ran into the JREB-mobile at the Weller bridge, and then we started the morning's chase. 8 shots on the outbound trip alone, with only one being a complete grab shot! Chasing has never been this good. We got a couple shots going back, and then got a few of the train wyeing at Dismal and heading back west to Grundy. In the afternoon we only (only!) got 5 shots outbound, including the coveted shot of the train coming out onto the wye at Devon. Coming back east was more of a challenge with lighting, but overall we did well despite the occasional underexposed disappointment.

On here I've attached mainly just shots I won't be posting anywhere else for a while, but the rest can (or will) be found on my Flickr here:

Also I took video of the westbound afternoon trip, which can be found here:

I look forward to seeing shots from the rest of you that were out there! If steam comes back to Grundy you'll be able to find me there, that's for sure.
