Yesterday me and my dad decided to head up to the Obed and explore some around Nemo. I've explored south Nemo before, but had yet had the chance to check out the northern part (Tunnels 24-22) and this is what we spent a couple hours doing. While I did want to catch a train or two, the main objective for this outing was to just explore the area, namely the tunnels.

The old access road was extremely muddy to the recent rains/snow, but it was passable enough to hike in on. Tunnel 24 is looking very forlorn, and was filled with water only maybe 100ft in.

We continued down the old ROW and then along the CNOTP. I saw the portal to Tunnel 23 (barely) through the trees, but continued on to the Emory River Trestle and Tunnel 22 as we had just heard a train get clearance through Camp Austin. I highly doubt you can even see 23 during the summer.

We hung out at the trestle until the southbound came across, this would be a great spot to do a camp out sometime! Although with a group, the stoners came marching (4-wheeling) in later when we hiked out of the area.

After the train came by, we backtracked to the tunnel, and after some careful stepping around a large puddle outside the portal, we reached dry ground inside the tunnel. We were able to walk all the way through the tunnel, and continued along the old ROW for a little ways before returning through the tunnel.

We waited around for about 20min before we started our hike back out... we didn't want to get stuck out there in the dark and the stoners had arrived  :)  sadly a southbound came by as soon as we were far enough past Tunnel 24 to not make it back in time... By the sound of their horn blowing our "friends" must have been playing on the trestle or something of the sort.

This sort of railfanning always interests me a lot more than the "drive up, park, sit, and wait" sort that is common these days. It also is easier to convince my dad to drive me.... Not everyone has the same capacity for waiting for trains in the middle of nowhere as me!

It was a lot of fun, and I hope to go back down there (preferably during a drought) and spend a whole day and explore to CW Tower and such.

I think this is my first attempt at inserting photos into a post. In case they didn't work, I've included them as attachments on this post.
