Sunday Morning 10/21/12, Mr. Herndon joined me for a day on the 1st District of the CNO&TP. We left with Two specific goals for the day, and luckily we where able to get what we went after.

We headed out early (as usual) making our first stop at High Bridge, just a short drive from home. The tree's have really started to put on a show during the last week here in Central Ky, and since we where going to be on the 1st District, I figured starting the day here was a good idea. The light was just starting to get good when we arrived, and over the next 2 hours we bagged 3 trains on the bridge.

After the sun started to swing around to far South, we headed on North to Georgetown, Ky  to record a few final images of the old signals. NS is in the middle of a project that will relocated the entire interlocking at Georgetown about a 1/4 mile or so to the South of the current CP.  New crossovers are being installed and once that is finished, new signals bridges will go up, and the old GRS searchlights currently in place will come down.  NS was nice enough to provide us with 4 back to back Southbounds shortly after we got there, so the 2nd goal was achieved before Noon.

After that parade was over, we took advantage of the lull in traffic to wander on up North a bit farther to a spot near Blanchet KY.  I had only shot there once before, and got skunked by a cloud, so the urge to try again was strong.  After a lengthy wait, we got Two trains, and decided to head on back South towards home.

Here are a few from the trip. The full sized versions can be found at this link >>> http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/cs1stdistrict12

Northbound 282 crosses High Bridge just as the sun is starting to filter down into the valley, bringing the color back to life for another day.

NS 173 soars high above the Kentucky River valley

A short time later, Northbound 216 crosses High Bridge.

Later in the morning, NS 215 passes through the soon to be gone interlocker at Georgetown KY

and not to far behind was train 295.

and...not 10 minutes later, Southbound Y4A passes the site of the new CP. One set of crossovers have already been installed, and the other on is ready to be cut in soon. The new signal bridges are also there and ready to go up.

Caleb tries his best to compose a shot through the tiny little holes in the chain link suicide fence at Georgetown...almost looks like a tiny little foamer prison  ;D

Later in the afternoon, a Southbound grain train rolls past the leasing barn of Blanchet...no clouds this time. Check this shot out on Pbase..this tiny little version here does not do it much justice!

On the way back home, we made a quick stop in Georgetown again to shoot 174 and the signals from a different vantage point.

Almost back home, I made use of the last light to shoot 285 at Vanarsdale KY.

What a day, EM! Great shots at High Bridge. I love that place. (And yay, we have a Y4A coming! I've never caught one with the extra 'Y' ID. Normally they just stick the next even number up on the train...)

Great shots, EM. I will say this - the only good thing about the old signals coming down in Georgetown will be the fact the new crossovers and signals at Georgetown will be at the exact spot of the old depot.  That, is kind of cool within itself.
