Title: Palm trees in Danville
Post by: E.M. Bell on December 04, 2007, 08:33:43 PM
ok...its like this. I was in Danville (KY)  a few friday nights ago killing time, doing a few night shots.. 275 pulls up to west perryville for fuel, and I do a few bulb shots.. The Danville High school football team was playing a game (the field is less than a mile from the yard). I did not know that when they scored a TD, they would set off a volley of fireworks..  The first TD caught me off guard. The fireworks went up and erupted right  over 275's lead engine at a time I had stepped away from the camera..and I missed it..

So..the fuel was flowing into 275's power, the new crew was on and they would be moving soon. I stand there in the cold, finger on the button, ready to get what I knew would be a killer shot. The fuel truck hollers on the radio to the tower that he is in the clear, tower tells 275 get on out of town. I start breaking down my gear and 275 has JUST started to move when I hear it..the crowd over the hill is cheering..and phooom..another fireworks round goes airborn. The camera is already unscrewed off the tripod and I try my best to steady it and push the button.  With my cold shaking hands and the very slight movement of the train the one image i get is blurred...firework burst is great, everything else...blurry ever so slightly.

Looking over the image at home, I decided that maybe it could be saved. I emailed it to our resident photoshop expert and a while later I get this...not exactly what I was wanting...but...its....different. Modern Art?? maybe i can make a million with this at some hoydie-todiye new  York art gallery.

Palm trees in Danville, or a fine example of redneck modern art...you decide.

Well, I went out on a limb and tried the modern art route for this one in a million masterpiece.   My agent managed to get it displayed in a upscale Art Gallery in New York City, but so far no one is willing to cough up the 500K I am asking for it...thats not to much for a EMD is it?? I was going for less than that, but figured I need to split it with JR as he did the PS work on it..

Here it is, hanging in the exclusive 0401 gallery in New York at the premier last night...Me and JR sure looked dandy in our Tuxes and  matching Central Div cumberbuns..

Yeah, we were outside "encouraging" people to come in and pay homage to that fine piece of work.  . . .  In true Kentucky style I might add. . . .

I was also on hand as the event photographer for the after premier "wetting down".

1)  EB and GW posing for their "GQ" cover.

2) Junior is providing a free workshop on understanding apertures and their applications to photography.

3) And Caleb, well . . . . what can I say?  That PEPSI is some rough stuff!

Bravo, kudos, encore, touche, you name it... but only $500k? You're getting screwed already, man. That's New York for you...

This may be the best demonstration of how aperture works that I have ever seen.
