Title: Introduce Yourself, Round Two!
Post by: Forum Admin on January 17, 2007, 07:25:36 PM
We had a long running thread where new members could introduce themselves, but somehow it seems to have gotten zapped when we made the software upgrade a few months ago.  Everyone please feel free to introduce themselves here in this thread..new members, old members. A lot of people seem to use "screen names" and dont sign their post. so this is a good chance for everyone to get to know each other even better, unless your hiding from someone  :D

If you ever pondered who was behind Jreb.org, our crew page is located here.  http://jreb.org/meetthecrew/

Butch Adkins, Lexington  KY

I am nearing the end of an odyssey to locate and visit the sites of all of the railroad tunnels that have been in Kentucky.  I have less than ten to go out of the 170 that I know about.

Hey, why not. Some of you may know me. My name is Tristan Garrett, but most people call me Tristan. I'm from Downers Grove, IL, proud of my town, enjoy dropping obscure movie quotes into otherwise innocuous conversation, and other boring things that nobody cares about. I have absolutely NO creativity when it comes to screen names, so that's why my screen name is also my real name. That's pretty much it.

Yeah... move right along, nothing to see here....

Not a bad idea . . . . I'm from near Muncie, Indiana (the small town of Yorktown, to be precise).  I have the Norfolk Southern Muncie-to-Frankfort line in the back yard.  Literally!  It's 142 feet out to the tracks from the deck.  NS #174 and 1-2 locals came by this morning already.

BTW, during the Christmas and New Year's holidays, we put a train-related lighted display in the backyard for the crews that roll past.

Eight years ago we added onto the house so I had a room for an HO-scale layout of the CNO&TP.  I've put some pics on the Modeler's Forum.  My family has enjoyed trips to central KY to take pictures for modeling purposes.  We "vacationed" in Chattanooga this past summer to get photographs of the DeButts Yard facility, as that is an area I haven't completed on my layout.

Oh yes, my name is Richard Seymour and I'm an Associate Professor at Ball State University.

I am Scooter Hovanec. I'm from Johnstown, PA, the west end of the ex Pennsy grade over the Alleghenys to Altoona. I am right next to CSX's bustling S&C Subdivision in town (2 trains a day), and about 3 miles from the NS main, which usually sees well over 100 CW40-9's a day, and almost nothing else. I am more of a CSX fan but with NS being so close I have always had an interest in it as well. I also enjoy model railroading, stock car racing (not just NASCAR) and hockey. I really enjoy the great group that we have here on JREB and I just want to thank every one for making it that way.

Hey all,
My name is Mike Kirsch, I'm from Nashville, IL, a small town of 3200 in Southern, IL.   I'm about 20 miles from the NS Illinois Division/St. Louis District line.  As you will see most of my photos come from Centralia, IL where I spend most of my "train hunting" .   Centralia is a hotspot to me, it is where the NS, BNSF, and CN all come together.  If I want to catch any of that yellow stuff I head over to Salem, IL and Mt. Vernon, IL.

I have lived in Southern Illinois for all 31 years of my life. I am happily married to a wonderful woman for over 7 years we have a 1 year old Son named Austin, we call him Little "A" and he is a joy to our life.  Maybe he will follow in my footsteps and be a railfan as well.  Who doesn't like trains????? ;D

Finally, feel free to checkout my photos at the links below, any comments are welcomed. ;)

Be Safe,
~Mike

I'm Ron and I'm pretty new to Norfolk Southern.   I grew up in Baltimore and had a lot of exposure to the B&O and Western Maryland in the late 60s/early 70s.  I've been interested in model railroading since 1993 and was planning to model the WM until I left the hobby about a year ago.  I just got back into it just recently and decided to try NS since there's a lot more NS stuff available in N scale compared to WM.  And I like the classic looks of basic black (kind of like the WM in its pre-Circus era).  Plus, I like many of the features of modern railraoding such as intermodal freight.

I live in Fairfax, Virginia and work for the Department of the Army as a civilian.  I'm also a retired Army Reservist.  I'm married with two kids.  My wife is a "Beltway Bandit" and an Iraqi Freedom veteran.  I have two kids.  My 12-year-old son is interested in helping me with my new railroad adventures as long as I get something UP-related.

I just joined Northern Virginia NTRAK and plan to build an N scale module for now since I don't have the time, space or patience for a home layout.  Meanwhile, I'm in the process of acquiring NS motive power and related rolling stock.

Hi all,
My name is Tim.  I live about 3 miles from the old PRR Mainline in Southwestern Pa.  I really see a lot of NS action, mostly intermodal and stack trains.  I also get to see alot of the heavy freights on the Conemaugh Line, about 20 minute drive from me.  I'm starting to fan the Mon Line.  I love to see the coal trains.  NS seems to run alot of different power on the Mon Line and I get to see the new hoppers too.  Looking forward to being here and participating. :)

Hello, my name is Chris Wehman, and I currently reside in a little town called Nashville, TN.  I'm a senior Business Management and Marketing student at David Lipscomb University.  Before I moved here, I spent my first 18 years in Bryan, OH, on the NS Chicago Line.  In May, I will be moving to Ft. Wayne, IN to work for Triple Crown Services.  I'm glad to be on this board, as it's provided me with some very useful and entertaining NS info.

Welcome to the club Robert, we'd love to see some of the photography you have to offer from the Gulf Coast area.

There are plenty of folks here to learn from and interact with, never hestitate to ask for info, whether travelling out of your area, or just railroad info in general.

We're not experts, but we can find the people who are!  ;)

Thank yoy Sean,

I dont really have a lot of pics from the area but I may scrounge up a few Louisiana and Delt shots. I do have (somewhere) several shots of former NS B23-7's stored at the L&D Shops in New Iberia La. awaiting export to Mexico. These shots would have been taken around 1997 or early 98. I am presently offshore but when I get in I will see if I can dig those up and post them.

Again thank you for the welcome note. Dont know how much I will have to offer but we'll see. I do hope to learn though.

have a good evening.

Thanks again Sean,

I am Chief Engineer (and have been in the business 29 years) aboard a Diving Support Vessel. I have not worked "Deep Sea" but on vessels to 6000 tons. I have a license for unlimited horsepower (Diesel and Gas Turbine) although I have yet to get the gas turbine experience. I stated in an earlier post regarding 20+ years with EMD's. I also have 5+ years with Ruston Paxman (English Electric Co.), 2 years with Caterpillar 3600 Series engines. Still cant beat the EMD though.

I was just reading some of the posts about the "Special Agent" (railroad police). In at least one of the posts it is no wonder the police come off like they do. If I was exposed to that type of discussion I would have an attitude too. Someone said (might have been you) the railroad police seem better at approaching people than the local police. I believe that to be true. I have had alot of "local police" as friends and have ridden with them on patrols and quite frequently they encounter bad situations. I think, therefore they tend to keep their guard up more so.

The most recent experience I have had was in New Iberia Louisianawith a local officer. I was approached while getting ready to take a photo and he asked what I was doing. I told him it was a hobby of I have been a railfan for years. He just kind of chuckled and said "dont get hurt" and left.

I have been back and forth between Louisiana and Hamilton Ohio checking on elderly parents quite a bit the last year and things have taken a back seat (other than what I can access out here). I'll see what I can find to post.

Thanks again.

Robert

Hey all, I'm Mike Huhn from Pittsburgh, PA, proudly rep'n the NS Pittsburgh Division (hence "NS_Pitt_division")! I've been a huge Conrail fan since my younger days and was a bit saddened when I first learned CR was bought/split by CSX and NS. And since NS took most of it (and most of the Conrail engines), I've been a NS fan since!

Howdy, Y'all.  I'm Jimmie Fisher in Alexander, NC (about 20 miles north of Asheville).  I've always liked trains and railroads, but have been railfanning seriously only about 3 or 4 years, so I have a lot to learn.   I'm especially interested in intermodal trains and operations, probably because there are no intermodal trains or operations near me.  I have a small HO layout, freelance modern era freight.  Yesterday, I bought my first scanner and am learning how to use it.  Jimmie.

Hey, my name's Thom Brown from Winchester, Ky.  I live within throwing distance of the R J Corman line, see a lot of CSX traffic too.   My wife's Grandparent's house backs up to NS near Rosemont Garden Crossing in Lexington.  I spend a lot of time traveling from Lexington to Eastern Kentucky each week.  I might travel to Ashland, Morehead, Prestonburg, Pikeville.  Love searching down and finding abandoned rail.  Traveling gives me the chance to photograph new and old rail.  I also enjoy model railroading, right now I'm between layouts.

Hi All, I'm Scott from Just north of Lexington Ky in Georgetown. I like two blocks from the NS line. I also work for toyota pulling containers out of the Georgetown NS Intermodal yard. Lots of great action that I get to see every night. Its usually too dark for photos however - with the short days and all. When they get longer I'll get some video footage as well as some still shots.

Hi, I'm Eric, from Columbus, GA, about 90 miles south of Atlanta. We have a NS yard here they use as a pass thru From B'ham-Opelika-Columbus-Macon. But we also have an old SAL yard here that served Toms Foods HQ (famous for their Peanuts) and RC Cola. The old SAL yard now belongs to GSW, at last I knew.  They switch out Lance foods (old Toms), EJ Knight scrap metals, and the ALabama state docks, via a line down the middle of 8th st for about 1.5 miles, then to cross the Chattahoochee river, next to the Columbus Iron Works Convention and trade center (Old Iron works that forged cannons for the civil war) .http://www.columbusga.org/tradecenter/history_4.htm (http://www.columbusga.org/tradecenter/history_4.htm) They switcht out the yard from the NS main on the southside of the yard.
I collect, model and run HO scale NS, BNSF, and SP (sorry no UP or CSX in existence on these rails.) And of course I have the old Southern E units pulling a railfan train. A Santa Fe El Capitan configuration, and some lease equipment making the rounds every now and then.
I found this site by googling  for any pics of the OCS fleet, and looked around for a couple of days, and decided I had to be a part of this.
I do envy you guys for being able to view rarities. The only thing I've seen down here is #4610 and the occasional OLS units.

Hi folks. I'm Chris Martin from Hueytown, Al ( few miles to the SW of Birmingham) and originally from Columbus, Ms. I had always been a fan of the Southern as a child in the 8O's and from there became a fan of NS. I was introduced to the SOU and the NS as they ran into my old hometown on the old West End NA line from Birmingham.  Now I live a few miles from NS' Alabama Great Southern (AGS) and waddle over there fairly often. I'm also a fan of shortlines in the Southeast and of ones  all the way to New England. A fan for life of the SOU and NS, finding this site was a nice and welcome find.  :)

Hello I'm Jim Bainter. I currently live in Cincinnati close to the N & W Hyde Park Branch where the NS TQ-07 operates. I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, starting with the B & O Wellston Sub in our backyard. We then moved to an appartment where we could see the Conrail Lytle Branch, then moved within sight of Conrail's Moraine Yard. After a couple more moves I am happy to say my mom and dad live in Moraine again, really close to MP 213 in a place with the C & LE interurban RofW in their backyard. My mom was from Portsmouth so I got into N & W very early on trips to see family either via US 23 (Columbus Dist) or Ohio St Rt 73 (Cincinnati Dist). In between, my grandma lived in Greenfield Ohio with a great view of the DT & I (favorite). Later, when I learned how to drive a lot of my early driving involved chasing and filming NS from Chillicothe Oh south with her. I then spent over two years with Sperry Rail Service (a whole two weeks of that on NS). I left Sperry to work for a shortline here in Cincinnati which led me into the job I was born to do... driving a transit bus, seventh year operator. I am a public transit / busnut. I guess the current railroads I like are Amtrak, CP Rail and of course the NS. Thank You.

My favorite fallen flag, as you can tell by my username, is the G&F which ran from Madison, FL to Greenwood, SC.

Hi!  I am Dan Horley, and live in Summerfield, NC.  about 10 miles north of Greensboro.  I am 69 yr old, and retired from two jobs, but  still active as a Christmas Tree Farmer here at my house.   Would like to do some railfanning with someone near me.   I need a break from the farm work.  I have a HO layout but it has remained dormant for several years.

Rich Sacha...Cleveland, OH  area near both lines of the Dearborn and  Lake divisions. Car repair (the rubber tire variety) the last 25 years. Before this worked in coal (and coke) and spent time along the Pocahontas division, Buchanan branch. Initially the N&W at the time. Know several guys out of Rockport yard, and like to get over to Bellevue on ocasion. A lot of oportunity for CSX here as well,  especially in Berea where both NS & CSX mains run parallel for several hundred yards.

Howdy fellas!!!

I am Dennis from Marmet, West Virginia and Norfolk Southern's WV Secondary is basically right in my back yard. So I tend to go over to the Norfolk Southern side of the Kanawha River every chance I get. Dickinson Yard is about five miles to the south of where I live, so I am usually over there seeing what power is in the yard. Which it has been kinda neat having a couple B32-8s over there switching cars in and out to the local industries.

I feel kind of mebarrassed because I've been here for over 2 years now and I never bothered to introduce my self. So here it goes...

I was born in Elmira, NY, and lived there till I was & years old. I attended Trinity Episcopal Church, which  was right next to the Erie Lackawanna mainline. That started my love affair with trains. At heart, I'm really an EL fan and a Bath & Hammondsport RR fan. I moved to H'port, NY, when I was 7 and spent the next 15 years watching the B&H Alco S1s (including an ex-NKP unit). I moved to Rochester in 1991... which I is where I live now. Along the way, I also became a fan of the Lehigh Valley, the Delaware & Hudson, the NKP and of course the N&W, plus all the shortlines that sprang up after Chessie and Conrail spun off their branchlines. Speaking of Chessie, I don't mind watching CSX one bit... but I see it so often around here that I seek out other RRs when I take a day off from work to chase. As some of you have seen, I really enjoy checking out NS in Hornell and Buffalo. I spend most of my time in upstate NY and northern PA... so the pictures of NS taken down south or out in the midwest are appreciated. Cheers!

Like Matt I've been around here for awhile too, but haven't introduced myself.  Of course it didn't help that after my daughter was born in 2008 all things trains fell by the wayside for a little while.  So here goes...

Tommy Warshaw here.  30, active-duty Air Force stationed down at Shaw AFB in the midlands of South Carolina.  After 7 years here I've got a new assignment (finally!) and am heading to Fort Meade just south of Baltimore, MD in April.  I'm originally from the Jersey shore and rural southern Virginia (teen years).  During my teen years I used to fan the Virginia Southern (now the VS Division of the Buckingham Branch RR) in and around my hometown of Keysville as well as the nearby Norfolk Southern Blue Ridge and Altavista districts. Outside of trains I've got  deep interest in firefighting (volunteer for 4 years now) and enjoy photographing fire apparatus about as much as I do trains.

As far as railroad likes.  Obviously I'm an NS fan if I'm here on an NS forum.  Of the Class I railroads it is what I prefer to watch.  That being said, I'm a bit more of a regional and shortline kinda guy preferring them to the usual vanilla widecab GEs seen on most Class Is nowadays.  I will say though that I'll enjoy watching just about any train anywhere.  Sometimes it's more about simply enjoying being outside in the fresh air.  I'm still a big Conrail fan since that's what one saw for NJ freight railroading in the 80s and 90s.  I'm also a big Lehigh Valley fan with blame laid for that on a engineer friend who worked for them in their last few years.

Hoping to start contributing some more NS photos here over the next year or so.  While I'll be trading one CSX heavy region for another, once I get to Maryland I'll be looking for more NS ops, even if I have to travel a little for it.  I'm also looking forward to doing some fanning again of my old stomping grounds around the Blue Ridge and Altavista districts.

It looks like we're on the same page with our tastes in railfanning. Since you're a fellow LV fan, here is NS at the former LV terminal in Sayre (PA) 10 months ago: http://www.jreb.org/ns/index.php?topic=8759.0

I'm pretty blessed with shortlines here in upstate NY- over a dozen are within a day's drive from Rochester and most of them interchange with NS, too. Like you, I enjoy the assortment of vintage standard cabs that power those shortlines. Alcos are my favorite... but I enjoy Geeps, EMD switchers and older GEs, too. Speaking of GEs, I'm going to start a thread in the Vintage Rails section about the former Southern and NS B23-7s that operate on the Finger Lakes Railway. They sometimes operate on former LV rails, too!

Hello everyone-

My name is Evan Lofback.  I am new to these forums but can be found on a few other forums and discussion groups such as TrainzForums, serails, and Floridarailroading on Yahoo.  I lived in the Tampa Bay area of Florida  for all of my life before moving to Maryville, TN (just southeast of Knoxville) about 4 months ago.  Compared to Tampa (and Florida in general), Tennessee and the surrounding areas are 110% better for railfanning.  I am thoroughly enjoying the NS traffic here, as we obviously didn't get too much of them in Florida.  And of course, I also have the CSX KD Sub that runs through Maryville to keep up the blue-and-yellow sightings.

I am also the owner of S-Line Productions.  Some of you may know my videos on YouTube under the username of csx6900.  I will frequently be posting my videos in the "Moving Pictures with Sound" spot on the forum.  ;)  You can also purchase a professional-quality DVD from S-Line Productions about the move of RPCX GP10 #8330 from Eustis, FL to Parrish, FL via Orlando, Waycross, Folkston, Plant City, and Tampa.

Although I now realize that I have chosen a terrible username for an NS forum, I look forward to being part of this forum and contributing to the group.  :)

Welcome! Glad to have you here! It must be nice having both the premier railroad of the East and then that "other" railroad in your back yard now.

I would have thought that Tampa had more to offer than here though. At least it's all bright blue, yellow, and gold there....

Heh, you would like to think so.  Things have gotten much better in the last year or so with the "resurrection" of some trains that went away when the economy tanked, but it's still relatively slow compared to Tennessee... and almost anywhere else in the United States, quite frankly.  The Bone Valley phosphate operations are neat to see, but other than that, there's not too much mainline action.  Tampa only originates and terminates 8-9 mainline trains a day.  But there's countless locals.  Plus the scenery is relatively flat and boring.  I'd much rather be recording drag freights in the mountains than a local passing through a swamp lol.

Thanks!  Yeah, I figured that I'd have some fun poked at me, but that is to be expected.  What can I say?  I grew up with CSX pretty much running through my Grandmother's backyard.  And yes, 6900 is a good old GP40-2 that used to be based out of Tampa on a regular local job.  She was mated with slug 2315.  I grew quite fond of the pair and named my channel and most of my usernames after her.  Unfortunately, I hadn't seen them in some months before I left Tampa and haven't heard anything of them since.

That was one good thing about west central Florida, though: We had all of CSX's good Geeps.  I believe that all of their ex-Reading GP39-2's are located in Florida as well as all three of their GP60's.  I'll miss that much about Florida for sure.

EDIT: And yes, in case you couldn't tell, I am also a big EMD fan!  ;)

Well, I'm new here too.

I'm Alex Wood and I have been a railroad videographer for little under one year, however I have been a lifelong railfan.

I am from Tuscola, Illinois home of the Union Pacific's Villa Grove Subdivision, CSX's Decatur Division and Illinois Central's Chicago Division. I lived right next to the IC until the age of two where I would stand in the window and watch their SD40's and GP11's cruise by, I consider my railfanning life to have began there. My favorite railroads gave always been Illinois Central; Gulf, Mobile and Ohio and Norfolk Southern. I re-visit Tuscola often to railfan however I have become very active in railfanning the NS Central Division at either Spring City, TN or Emory Gap, TN. I moved to Tennessee in 2008 from Illinois. I also tend to railfan Knoxville, TN for the CSX and NS there as well.

I plan to have a railroad career as an engineer, I am most inspired to do so as both my great great Grandfather and his brother were engineers. One being with the Seaboard and the latter being with the Southern. I plan to work for Norfolk Southern out of Chattanooga as my Uncle Billy did.

Anyhow, I love to meet new railfans and meet up and railfan with other people.

Cheers.

Howdy, all -

My name is Lindsay, I live in West Knoxville/Concord/Farragut-ish, TN, and I used to think of trains as occasional inconveniences.

...and then I had kids.

What started as a brief fascination with Thomas the Tank Engine somehow morphed into a full blown case of train fever, particularly for my four year old - he is basically obsessed with Norfolk Southern (although I think Conrail really has his heart) and anything that involves steam. Norfolk Southern's Knoxville-Chattanooga main runs right through our little section of far west Knox County and parallels our favorite park. Thus, the intentional train watching began. At this point, we are not terribly sophisticated. We basically drive between the signals at Anchor Park and Martel Road and attempt to deduce, based on colors, whether or not a train is headed out way. Pitiful, I know.

Last spring, I accosted Evan (csx6900) on YouTube after he posted some Knoxville videos and gathered some valuable railfanning tips from him. Upon Googling for information about this weekend's big train festivities in the area, I stumbled upon JREB. Although most of it is, as yet, far, far above my head, I hope to learn enough to make our light railfanning a little more streamlined and economical, as well as effectively foster my sons' love of trains as long as they are interested.

If anyone noticed, or was annoyed by, the weird lady with two bouncy kids in the blue Volvo leap-frogging (I'm not sure "chasing" would be the appropriate term for that trip...) with the 630 on Monday, that was us. :)

Looking forward to filling my brain with all sorts of train tracking knowledge and eventually becoming a less pointless member!

- Lindsay

Hey there Lindsay!

Welcome to JREB!  Glad to see you here.  I think you sell yourself short as far as what you know about railfanning.  Based on my discussions with you in the past, you seem to know quite a bit about railroad operations, particularly in the Knoxville area.  Of course, there's always more to learn no matter how seasoned you are, but you seem to have a pretty good start.

I hope you enjoy your time here on JREB, and you can learn even more about this intriguing hobby.  If you ever have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.  You can never ask a stupid question - take it from me - I don't even know the difference between passing and meeting!  ;)

-Welcome,
Evan

I might as well make myself known to you fellow NS fans.  My name is Andrew Stephenson and I'm from New Port Richey, FL.  I've been a lifelong railfan (of nearly 31 years).  I'm interested in pretty much all aspects of railroads, but my favorite thing to do is just to hang out trackside for extensive periods of time and watch.  I mostly just OS the trains I see, but I'll snap a shot from time to time.  Being from Central Florida, the nearest NS line is 195 miles away in Jacksonville, so extensive road trips are required.
I'm glad that this site is available for Norfolk Southern fans.  I can say that NS is my favorite class 1 railroad, following in the footsteps of my favorite fallen flag...Southern.  I'm also interested in train symbols and yard operations.  I look forward to swapping info with everyone and maybe I'll see some of you trackside!

I've been a railfan since my dad tossed a camera in my hand at age 3, good ol' Fisher Price Kodak 110 (and took me to watch trains in Detroit near our house before that). Have lived in such exotic places for trains such as Grand Rapids, MI, Sandusky and Cincinnati, OH, and Evansville, IN :) I've been all over the country for pictures, and have uploaded a bunch to my flickr site, as well have begun to scan my dads old slides. Also on RP.net as well. married, no kids (yet), nice to meet all of you :)

I'm Nathan Wyatt.  I have been fascinated with trains since I was a small child.  I live in Swannanoa, NC and frequent all of the  NS lines around Asheville.  In the past 2 years I took up an interest in photography and decided to combine it with my love of trains.

I enjoy the chase and the rural places my train watching takes me.  My favorite place around Asheville are the Old Fort Loops.  It is some what remote and you can always hear the trains coming.  Check out my adventures on my youtube channelhttp://www.youtube.com/user/cadilacmuzik?feature=mhee (http://www.youtube.com/user/cadilacmuzik?feature=mhee)  or my blog www.ashevillerailfan.com (http://www.ashevillerailfan.com)

Hi All,

I'm Stewart Anderson from Melbourne, Australia and this year I celebrate 30 years of 35mm photography. I'm also an engineer with over 28 years of service and I'm embarking on my second trip to the USA in 4 weeks. The main focus of the trip will be shortlines that interchange with the NS.  Apart from 1000 wide nose GE's, I think the NS still has a relatively eclectic roster, so I am looking forward to seeing some high-hoods along the track.

I think you will find this to be a informative, fun place to hang out, with great information and one of the best behaved group of fans you could ask for.

Take a few minutes to take a look around and get the "feel" of the fourm, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Lurkers are always welcome, but we invite you to participate and join in. Pictures, heads up, questions and good natured ribbing is always welcome....and feel free to introduce yourself to the group as well!

I'm Jordan Hood from Gainesville, Georgia on the Piedmont Division. I've always been a railfan and I can't think of any better hobby than this. I've met a lot of good people through the whole thing (and thanks to local Jrebber and friend trainkid16) have become more involved in railfanning recently with NS. Besides railfanning, I also a model railroader with my grandpa where we run what will be a 1950's Georgia Railroad with the occasional CofG, ACL or whatever we railroad/era we feel like running. I post my pictures on rrpicturearchives and Facebook, so feel free to look me up on both sites. I've enjoyed soaking up all I have on JREB so far and hope see some of ya'll trackside sometime.  :)

Hello! I'm Earl Pursley from Pittsfield, IL. I live 13 miles from the old Wabash line from Decatur to KC. Not a huge amount of traffic here but a lot of history. The line was built in the 1860's so there are still a few ghosts of the past to be found here.
This is a great site and I am learning a great deal just lurking. Still can't id the new stuff - lot of catching up to do. I followed the N&W in the 70's but didn't pay a lot of attention after the early 80's. I was trying to get back into modeling and saw the Heritage units in a Historic Rail catalog. That got me back to following the real thing. I still haven't seen a Heritage unit. The only ones to pass this way were after dark. Hopefully summer and more daylight will help. I am in the process of visiting all of the crossings between the rivers to find the best place for watching and photos. Hope to have something to share soon.

My name is Jeff and I currently work for PTI out of the NS yard in Danville, KY. My former father-in-law is a retired carman from the same yard and during my almost four months with PTI, I have gotten acquainted with many workers from Danville, Cincinnati, and so on. PTI has made a rail fan of sorts out of me and I have applied to become a conductor for NS as well. Hope to enjoy my time here. God bless and have fun.

Hello everyone! My name is Alexa Raith and I'm currently living in Columbus, Mississippi. I'm getting more and more interested in photography and when I met my fiance two years ago, (you may know him as csx6900) he opened my eyes to a whole new avenue of interest and I have to say, I'm really loving it. I've been able to tag along with him around Tupelo and Columbus, Mississippi and, of course, the Knoxville, Tennessee area. My first real chase with a camera was chasing the Jellico Local last month so I'm still VERY new. So now I'm here to help him out as sidekick! I hope to really hone some skills and share some pictures soon!
