Coal trains on the ex-Wabash Railroad Springfield-Hannibal District are as rare as hen's teeth.  However, back in 2009 and early 2010 NS routed some 40-car blocks of coal consigned to the municipal power plant in Columbia, Missouri via Springfield, IL,  Moberly, MO, Centralia, MO and the Columbia Terminal Railroad.  Most of these short coal blocks went west on manifest train 33J.  However, when the "J" was running heavy, NS ran the coal west as a separate mini-unit coal train, with train symbol #426.  Here train #426 rolls off the miles next to old US Route 36 on the flat prairie west of Curran, IL with a fresh ex-Conrail Dash 8 on the point.

Tyler I repaired your post to show the pictures on Flickr for some reason you have to use the BBCode to embed into a message now, not really sure why.

Here's my two submissions.
The first was an empty coal drag dropping downgrade westbound on track 2 while an eastbound load creeps up track 1 at Cassandra, PA. This is pure PA Bituminous Coal country on the West Slope of the PRR mainline.
The second photo was taken just a handful of miles east from the first in Cresson, PA. This was the first time I saw one of NS's heritage units, and lucky for me it was leading a westbound empty coal drag!
