I start this thread off by first saying this is the best horn show that I have ever heard or recorded.
I shot this video back on June 21st of CSX train G894, empties, heading west through my hometown of Marmet, West Virginia. Leader on this train is CSXT 7302 which was CONRAIL 6054 in its former life. As you can tell when I walk in front of my camera, I've got this look of "THAT just happened" on my face. I counted at least twenty one horn blast from the crossing to my camera. As for why the engineer did this, I really have no idea why he did it. I even checked in front of him to see if anyone was on the tracks and there wasn't.
One monster of a horn show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4kg_Z26TMw).
Enjoy the video guys!!!!
You should go to Chattanooga when they are testing new horns. They pull the engine out to the end of the yard and have a guy with a DB meter on a ladder and then the real show starts... they blow the horn for about 25 seconds... for about 5-6 times in each direction. The neighbors must love that!
I think that same guy, or his cousin, must come by here every Friday night about 3am. Sounds exactly like him. I always think some drunk in on the tracks and expect to hear sirens soon afterward. But after hearing the same thing for 2 years now.. I think it's someone letting their friends or family know they are rolling by.
