I was surfing the web and found somethings about railroad and read a few. The person insisted FDR Funeral Train changed over to the ACL (AB&C) at Woodbury Ga. When I hired back in 1971 there were a number of men who were working when FDR died at Warm Springs and I was told there was at least one of the men who took the train from Warm Springs to Atlanta was still alive. The train went Southern all the way to Atlanta and on to Washington. This was told to me by Mr. R. L Turner who was working as a fireman or engineer at the time. The train went to Woodbury on to Griffin to McDonough and the H line into Atlanta. All trains had orders to stop before meeting the train. Franklin Roosevelt was loved by the people of Georgia and even the Engineers got off there Engines as the train passed. While I can't correct what was posted some where else I post this here. They used the fact that US 29 south of Atlanta is called Roosevelt Highway. I can only guess that was because it went south from Atlanta and went close to Warm Springs. The train crossed the Cental of Georgia at Griffin as Southern did not own the Central at the time. Mr. Turner and I worked a few hundred times on the same train. We talked a good deal about this. We were working the line from Griffin to Columbus when he told it to me. When FDR went to Warm Springs and when going back to Washington his train went Southern all the way.
Thanks for the history lesson! Little details like that are as important has the big ones.
8) Hello e'l W, all I know is that the train did go by what's now the Southern Railway McDonough Training Center.
