Title: Crab Orchard
Post by: ssmith1627 on August 08, 2010, 12:37:29 AM
I took a look east from Monterey, TN a couple weeks ago to see how bad the old Tenn Central line looks.   Coming back today from a brief chase of the OCS, I stopped at Crab Orchard to get a look west.   Even worse.  It's hard to tell where the right of way even goes and the rails are long gone.  Sad to see.

I walked further up to the TC tunnel as well.  Snapped a couple pictures.  You can't even see the ties there.....the rails seem to stick out just a few inches from the mud and a little creek running through them as well.   I scampered down a hillside on the other end to get a look at the west end of the tunnel.  Just rough rock on that side.  I'll have to go back in the winter to get a better look.  I had on shorts and sandals and there was poison ivy everywhere.

Still fun to see the pieces of what's left of the old TC.   I plan to keep digging around to see what else is out there.  Would be fun just to kind of document the sections of track that are still in use today by other railroads.

i found a old stone arch bridge in nashville the other day that might be a TC bridge. it's close to a new lookin nashville eastern bridge but it's all grown up with brush. i'd like to go back this winter and check it out better.
