While out shooting on Saturday, we stopped by to check out the activity (or lack there-of) at the K&T in Stearns KY. They have a Alco...make that HALF a Alco sitting out by the shop at Hemlock. I hadn't seen this unit around there before, and as you can see, it has been pretty much stripped. About all that is left is the bottom portion of the block, part of the electrical cabinet and the frame and trucks. The only ID is the "Corbin Ky" on what's left of the cab. Anyone have any idea where this came from?? click the thumb for a pic...

The locomotive is an ex-Arch Minerals S2 that was purchased for parts in the mid 1990's. I think it's mate is still sitting in Lynch, KY. Both units have had the engine room doors shortened and the walkways ballasted to give them more adhesion.
Regarding K & T activity, freight switching is usually only done on weekdays and they've been handing roughly 360 cars a month, all local switching between the interchange yard and a car cleanout/repair facility at and behind the shops. The only thing running on weekends are the passenger trains to Blue Heron. There's more information on the web site at www.bsfsry.com.

Thanks for the info Bill. I may have a couple of shots from years back of that unit and a couple more from that area. Didnt put it together until now. I will have to dig those out..
Is this the unit at Lynch that is mentioned?
Butch, I'd say so. The ballast on it looks the same as on the "hulk" picture. Glad they could save one of the two, those S2's are rare beasts anymore..
