IMG_0177.JPG I was wondering what the box on the front porch was plus are they basically SD50s or are the on a shorter frame I think there remodels from the SD50S series please any info is helpful thanks

The box is the Helper Link device that allows the locomotives to cut off on the fly when in helper service.

The first two SD40-E's, 6300 and 6301, were rebuilt from the shorter SD50S locomotives, but the rest of the rebuilds have been rebuilt from standard NS and former Conrail SD50's.  The heritage of each unit can be found on my SD40-E roster at the following link:

Wow thank ya sir !! So it's just a newer version of the squid! well now that I have a better pic I will build a part list and hopfully be able to post pics later thanks again for you'd help
