I have one of the first runs of Walthers G87's for NS, and I seen some photos of a few on rrpicturearchives from 2007. Im wondering if they still use them, or if any were rebuilt into TopGons? All I see on the Harrisburg line are the TopGons and the newer Coalporters. Also, did they repaint any of the ex-CR coalporters, or did they scrap them?
This is what I heard... I do not have conformation... maybe someone else does... The cars you are talking about were built VERY cheaply... most were recycled within 10 years of their build date. Again... what I heard.
Okay, is that for the Ex-CR hoppers or the G87's. The latest i have tracked down G87's was in 2008. The would make a nice weathering project, since they are all rust, and coal dust, you can't even see the reporting marks.
I believe it is the ex-conrail hoppers.
Ikay i have found pics of Ex CR hoppers in an NS Powder River Basin trian on BLMAs website under there blog, so i guess they still have the "newer" Ex-CR coalporters.

The NS G87 class are in service, but they are not shiny anymore--in fact, they are almost black from years of coal dust! These cars are aluminum, and I believe they were built in the early-1990s.
The older CR "Beth Gons" were made from steel and began to rust-out after years of use. I've never seen one of the former Conrail cars painted, and I believe many have been scrapped.
