Hooked up with Brent Harrison at Nemo to hike down to the Crooked Fork Bridge at the north end of the Coleman siding. Caught two NB, a hi-railer, then two SB. Got a mix of shots dealing with sun and shadow issues.
1-The first NB with a Conrail lead getting ready to go under the signal bridge
2-The second NB pushing through the shadows and the 26 degree temp approaching the bridge
3-Same train across the bridge and reaching the signal
Ok, this set of pix are a little better-still had some sun issues, starting at Crooked Fork Bridge.
1-The first SB, 295 I think it was, taken from up on the rock ledge basicly because Brent wondered if it was climbable.
2-The second SB, 197 with totally foreign power; Santa Fe lead followed by BNSF.
3-Another SB coming out of Tunnel 22
4-The SB parade continued at Tunnel 24 as the shadows fell
Thats a heck of a hike! I made a similar trek a few years ago on a August morning...and that was a mistake. The bridge at Coleman is the only small Thru Truss bridge on the CNO&TP, and is worthy of a few pics even if its a pain in the neck to get to..
That is one heck of a hike, The one from old tunnel 23 to 22 is bad enought along with Andy Cooper Rd. to tunnel's 19 and 20. Those photos are awesome, If I ever go down there, i'll be sure to bring some video back for you guys.
Yeah, the hike from Camp Austin might be closer, but we had a good time-not sure I'd want to make the Coleman trek in August thought. I'd say old 23-22 to CW Tower isn't bad if you can get across the River. Andy Cooper Road-that one's a bit tougher, but I did 19-20 and then 18 at the same time.
