Title: steeper than saluda
Post by: Kentucky & Indiana Terminal RR on September 09, 2009, 12:58:25 AM
my first so called railfan trip took me to madison indiana and the CMPA railroad, home of the steepest mainline grade in america.  one look at this hill on foot and you will soon realize its no joke.  I guess most trips arent this successful but I found a running davenport center cab, two tiny plymouths from the military days, and a nifty painted sw8 and gp10, and to top it all off they were glad to show me around and tell me how to get there.  I realize this has nothing to do with the ns or the southern but comparing the two grades was quite an experience to say the least.
