Today I saw an all steel train which is rare these days for sure. It had gondolas with slabs then covered coil cars on back. Pretty long and sounded heavy. It came from the mostly dead Mon Valley.
The train was being pulled by two newly painted GP 40's with one of those slugs converted from a GP.
Steve,
I saw basically the same train this past Monday while sitting down at the park. Two gp40-2's and #701, a RP-E4C road slug. 37 cars, all gondolas and coil cars. I wonder if this is going to be something on a regular basis.

When steel was moving last year there was a train that would come by around 6am with steel loads from Irvin Works, GM Stamping etc. Now the train is minus the GM loads for obvious reasons but now has a gang of gondolas with slabs. US Steel Corp is making a lot of from ET and Irvin because the others are shut down for now.
I remember in the "good old days" when unit steel trains were as common as stack trains are today.
