You know, I'm not sure I've ever posted here in the TR&PS section, but it's time to break that streak. Sunday morning, Emmett and myself went out to burn up a day shooting what NS had to offer us. We both were using our new cameras, which I was looking forward to, even if I don't know all the in's and out's yet.
In case you missed it, here is Emmett's report:

I'm not very familiar with the Louisville District, at least much past Harrodsburg anyhow. Our first stop was at Waddy, and while we had good intentions, we didn't have the best of luck here. Here's the first train of the day, NS 111 just past the East end of Waddy.

Emmett had a great idea for a shot and we decided to see what to make of it. Really cool shot if your timing is just right, which mine isn't, but it's pretty close. Here's 111 again, this time at Vanarsdale.

We caught up to 111 at East Talmage, sitting in the siding waiting for NS 287 to get by. Folks probably thought I was trying to take pictures of someones home, but no chance, I was waiting to see what 287 had to offer. Sadly they must have forgot that I was out taking pictures and stuck a GE in front of an EMD. Can't win 'em all, here's 287 at East Talmage.

111 was on it's way to Harrodsburg and we were there to (try) and catch him. I'm sure at this point 111's crew had thought they were being stalked by two guys in a big green Chevy. Nah, just two EMD-aholics. I was originally going to try and get a telephoto shot of him, but he showed up quicker than I had anticipated, so I had to quickly put on the wide angle lens.

We hauled tail to meet 215 on it's way to Danville. Here's 215, in all it's GE glory. Is that even possible?

Okay. We were going to try and grab another shot of 111 a little south of SJ Tower, but 215 was fueling and 111 wasn't in any hurry to get in line, so we decided to go get some grub. Not before 116 shot underneath us on his voyage to Gest St. As is common, GE's ruled this train, but he sure had a lot of gons.

After a McGreasies fish sammich, we heard 111 ready to depart Danville. Luckily NS 160 stalled him long enough so we could get him at Bowen.
Mr. Bell focused on the prize:

I hunkered down in a ditch, but I was about to nab good ole number 2600 one last time.

So 160 had an EMD and we wanted to head back North since the light was getting better. The chase was on, and here's 160 in Harrodsburg.

Emmett took me to his signature location on the LS to shoot the fences. After some waiting, 23G was on us and began snaking around the curves. My shot didn't turn out the best, but 23G did have a lot of engines.

This guy knows all the tricks!

I tried my best to get 160 passing the Lawrenceburg Cemetery, but I waited a little too long and the shot flopped big time. The clouds started moving in anyways, so I knew we were probably done for the day.
In closing, I'd like to give everyone the gift that keeps on giving, a high hood SD40-2.

Looks like a fun day.
I needed to test drive my wife's car on Saturday, so my oldest daughter and I hit several Flea Markets, ending up in Burnside. When the sun came out for a while, I decided to go play. The signals at Greenwood indicated a NB in the block and a SB approach, so we hustled up to Dead Ox Holler, but I couldn't quite get sun on the nose of the NB. Heard 225 SB at Grove so we busted up to the bridge at Cave Spring Road. I wanted to catch the engines coming out of the cut in the distance-which is above the lake about halfway between Garland Rd and Cave Spring Rd. But they were already in the cut as we reached the bridge so by the time I got out, I had to settle for a much broader shot. But it was still fun.
To much ME is as bad as to much GE :)
Looks like you done well, makes me even more pissed I hosed that Waddy shot!
Well, I got my shot from Caves Springs Road Saturday afternoon, but I need a better camera with a better zoom. But it was fun anyway.
