Norfolk Southern's exhibit car was at the Heritage Transportation Festival in Delphi, IN (near Lafayette) over the weekend.
In the first photo, the car sits on a siding behind NS #5004 (GP 38-2).
Once inside, the first display on the left is a tribute to the N&W, Southern, and Conrail railroads. A small HO-scale yard is under plexiglas below the screens, with three yard tracks (each with equipment of the specific rail lines, one RR per track). Then the yard tracks converge to a single main line, with all current thoroughbred equipment . . . . so it's symbolic.
The highlight of the car is the engine cab simulator. The control stand is fairly authentic, inside a modern locomotive shell. Video screens display the scenery out the front cab window as the train runs a short job. My 11-year-old son is shown at the controls. In the last photo, he is using two hands to notch-back on the speed (per the audio instructions in the cab) while Mom watches in the aisle way.
Note: Since it was Father's Day weekend, Dad had to try out the simulator as well.
Great time, RDS
As of today, the 16th, it is still sitting in Delphi, Indiana.
