Today my wife and I were in the area of Hwy 127 between Houstonville and Junction City. Actually, we were on a parallel road near the tracks. Getting near Junction City, I saw a strange group of rail cars behind an odd looking engine. I had never seen this outfit before. I had seen mention of a "rail grinder" here on Jreb, and I figured that was what I was looking at. Tonight I looked it up to confirm my guess. It was parked, with the lead engine running, and exhaust flowing out the top. It was headed north. I got out a camera and made several photos. I was on the shady side, so the photos couldn't be good, but I made some anyway. It was a rare sighting.
