Monday 01/19/15, the N&W 8103 snuck in on us after a power swap on the semi-regular 891 coal train. The train arrived in Danville, KY late morning, and thankfully took its time getting out and headed West for Louisville.
Thanks to the delay, I was able to get home after work, grab the camera and head South to intercept. I landed in Harrodsburg, KY and waited...and waited. While 891 had been ready to go, they got even more delay due to a heavy volume of traffic, and by the time they got on the move it was almost 1630! My perfect light chase across the Louisville District was soon cut back to a couple of shots before the shadows got bad. Thankfully, the power on the 890/891 (PAL McHenry KY to TVA Kingston TN) tends to stay on that turn for weeks at a time, so there will be other chances.
for now, here is what little I got on Monday. They can be found in full size at this link. http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/nsls15 (http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/nsls15)
