Can anyone give me a few of their favorite shots near Bluefield?

THP... The railroad runs thru the downtown of Bluefield... As ya come into the downtown look toward the east end of the yard on US52; there is a bridge (...Grant Street on Google Maps...) that has a pretty good sidewalk; it's a good place to shoot...  Mercer Street crosses the yard too; and there is a frontage street (...Pulaski street...) that parallels the yard... There are several good places to shoot there too...

My all time favorite place to shoot is Cooper...Just follow US 52 a few miles to Bramwell, then get off... (...Check out Bramwell on caltopo.com....)....Head south down the river a bit; and ya will see the bridge at Cooper... The Cooper bridge is just about a mile down the grade from the fabled Elkhorn Tunnel... I would explore there a bit and wait on the trains to come east or west on the bridge... It's a great location... The track next to the river is the old "Pocahontas Branch" (...i think...); there's no traffic on it...

If ya have time, keep driving west on US52 to Maybeury and on toward Welch... There are plenty of places to shoot, and the trains are non-stop...

Have fun...

Well Thanks a lot. I will hit all these you suggested. My coal trains have about dried up here so I may go into shock trackside by actually seeing some. If you all don't hear from me by Xmas call 911. ;D

Ya will have a great time... I always love to go up there at this time of the year or in the winter when the leaves are off the trees and the snakes aren't crawlin... It's a great place to railfan... Have fun, and send them pictures back... My guess is that ya will see plenty of east bound coal trains...
