Title: Oddity Of The CNO&TP Line
Post by: NSyorktown on July 01, 2014, 11:00:50 PM
As others have mentioned on this forum, the 21st Century steam excursions were "super cool" during the months of May and June.

One observation from the Lexington to Oneida trip on May 31st, I was amazed at how much of the line was drive-able!  By that I mean there is a clear path for MOW vehicles along much of the route.  By my guess, at least 80% of the line has a parallel pathway for trucks and vans.

Three sample pics are included to support my observation:
1) On the southbound trip that morning, this pic (from the 10th car back) is from "somewhere below" Burnside.  Note the smooth gravel path on the west side of the main.
2) Northbound later that Saturday, entering the Kings Mountain cut is the familiar pathway on the east side of the mainline.  Obviously, this pathway appears in every photograph taken from the Rt. 501 bridge.
3) At the north end of the Kings Mountain cut, I aimed the camera backward to catch the end of the train since were then in the 3rd car (and the vehicle pathway is clearly evident).

I know these aren't the best photographs, partly due to the thick (and dirty) windows and distortion caused by the extreme angles out the windows, but these images help make my point.
