Took a trip out west of Douglasville Georgia on the Alabama Division East End to Villa Rica, out to Bremen and then down the Central Of Georgia line to Carrollton Georgia. In Villa Rica caught NS 220 with the NS9403 on the point. Next was NS 154 with the NS9954 on the point. It was followed by NS 290 with NS8381 on the point. This wasn't exactly what I was expecting this early in the morning, three catfish in a row. So on to Bremen and nothing close by so out to Waco Georgia and good to see hoppers at the grain silos there. Has been a while since I was out this way and with the way things are these days glad to see they are still operating and have a yard full of grain hoppers.
Next, headed down US27 south to Carrollton Georgia where the local is stationed. No activity but did see NS3567(former HLCX8155)and NS529 sitting on the house tracks next to the crew office. Wasn't able to confirm train symbols but some lists show the local as A67 / A68? Again, it was good to see a number of cars and the power there. With the closing of Georgia Power Plant Yates and the increased use of natural gas at Plant Wansley, coal drags that were very common through here are almost none. My sources tell me that NS has only delivered 12 coal loads to Plant Wansley in 2014.Many a day was spent chasing coal drag south out of Cedartown, up Dugdown Mountain into Bremen over the diamond then south into Carrollton and on to the power plants. Glad I was able back then to capture what I did because the good old days of coal drags over the Central Of Georgia are just about no longer.
Wrapping up a cloudy day here in the SE managed to catch on the way home at Winston, NS 24E with KCS4165 on the point.
