Title: NS and a poor excuse for a snowstorm in Kentucky
Post by: E.M. Bell on February 16, 2013, 07:30:47 PM
A couple of weeks ago, I played host to one of our members from the Washington DC area, and we spent a couple of days out shooting on the CNO&TP and the Louisville District. The weather man had been calling for a couple inches of snow, but as usual that turned out to be a bust..

We did get a little snow, but for the most part the wind just blew it around...impressive to look at when it was there, and then gone in a flash.  At least the NS did not dissapoint us, and we where treated to the usual steady parade of trains. The clouds helped out to some degree as well, allowing some Northbound shots that are not possable when the sun is out.

Below are a few samples from February 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. You can check out the entire set at this link if you want  http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/2013rail_eb (http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/2013rail_eb)

And for something a little different...R.J. Cormans dinner train comes by the signals at "Frankfort Ave" on the CSX LCL sub with the Louisville skyline in the background. . The train was being moved to Lexington KY for a Legislative party, and being the good host, I took Sean to catch it.  Hey, at least those FP7's are former Southern units

E.M.:

I suppose this is "off topic" (per this thread), except that you did invite us to view all the pics from the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th over on PBase.

Wonder why GE would be sending these things southbound, rather than toward Erie(?)

Just curious!

They are being shipped to the newly opened GE loco plant in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Here is a link to some photos of the new plant:
