Title: Appalachia District--A Little Snow
Post by: Ponce de Leon on December 21, 2012, 10:42:57 PM
Like Butch, I tried to get a few shots today. There was snow--but not too much. I had a doctor's appointment in Weber City, VA, so I drove over to Frisco for a shot or two. Back home at Big Stone Gap, an eastbound was ready to leave at the CSX-NS junction (waiting on a signal)---and an ex-Southern GP38-2 tied up on the passing track for work train duty was a cool photo subject.

This is really funny we must have been following each other today because we saw the same things at the same locations. ;D

The 38 pic is pretty awesome!  Lay in the snow to get that one?  Like the new commercial for canon (I think) shows the people getting the pic in awkward situations ... Nice though

I just held it low and slowly rotated the camera where I "thought" it should be looking, and fired continuously. I had about nine or ten frames to choose from, so I pulled up the best of the group and did some leveling, brightness and contrast adjustment. It's not always necessary to look through the viewfinder or actually see what the camera is looking at. That's particularly true with digital cameras. You can shoot 50 shots and discard 49 of them without additional cost. In the days of film it was another story!

Ah yes! Burst shooting! People always say "Man, you timed that perfectly!" I always seem to forget to tell them that 15 pics ended up in the garbage file! LOL! Dan
