Title: Savannah & Atlanta heritage, Roanoke to Bristol, 7/7
Post by: John Owens on July 11, 2012, 12:21:24 AM
With E.M.'s post from Saturday below... I'll share my take on the 24-hour, 1000-mile straight "death march" to shoot the Savannah & Atlanta heritage motor with the Roanoke to Bristol excursion train.

Image 1: Our first shot of the day at Wabun, VA.

Image 2: The clouds almost got us at Newbern, as the train had slowed to meet an opposing freight and track inspector.

Image 3: After a nice break for lunch at Pulaski, the train is seen passing through a small rock cut on the west side of town.

Image 4: The Savannah & Atlanta heritage unit meets Norfolk & Western CPL's at the Abingdon siding.

Image 5: After the passengers got off the train at the Bristol depot, and onto their buses for the return trips to Pulaski and Roanoke... We see the consist from the VA/TN state line along the sidewalk on State Street backing into the yard for the night.
