Title: NS 111 w/CEFX 6010 leading
Post by: Ed Fury on September 11, 2011, 12:56:27 AM
And a few more odds and ends from the day.

I was trying to get some photos of this SD40-2 from an overpass when they started it up and took off. As I was hurrying along the narrow concrete ledge 111 came roaring through, caught me totally off guard and even gave me an exhaust blast in the face.

They used to assemble 23G at the above photo location by adding on the road power there. Those images are from the Newburg road overpass. Now NS takes the train east a couple of overpasses and they complete the train under the Shepherdsville road overpass which is just on the other side of the GE Appliance park yard. There is a protected sidewalk on the west side and it has a chainlink fence to keep people from jumping off??..  one advantage to having a small P&S camera it will fit in the holes on the fence. The east side is all road and no access to foot traffic and there are tons of powerlines to ruin any photos.

22A came in a little while after this and it was an non-nose lit shot and they block the main for about an hour so I went home for lunch.

This super long autorack was the next train I caught just east of MP 286.

23G headed east next and I had a good long shot lined up and for some reason I kept getting a red box which means the camera was refusing to focus. By the time it went green the lead units were past me. Normally I can catch both trains with correct lighting but for some reason they swapped times today.

After 23G went east 3 westbound trains came in.

A mixed freight and the daily coil train.

In between the freight and coil train a light power move almost got cell phone talking trespasser boy using the railroad as his personal sidewalk.

He looked at me like I was the idiot when I told him there was another train coming and he needed to get off the tracks.

I see examples just like this about 95% of the time I go out to watch trains on the Louisville District.

Can someone confirm that 9978 on the coil train was the last dash 9 built for the NS?

If so I will try to catch the coil train a few more times while that unit is being used.

Yes, the 9978 was the last Dash 9-40CW.
