Title: A Sunday Morning in Chattanooga 03/20/11
Post by: E.M. Bell on April 09, 2011, 03:35:51 PM
Last Month, while on the way back from Alabama, Carm and myself stopped and spent a few hours in Chattanooga to hang out with Mike and Scott. While the main objective was to check out the Southern 630 at TVRM, we also bagged a few other goodies before we headed back for the Bluegrass.

Bigger versions for the rivet counters can be found here

We spent a little time poking around at TVRM as well, and came up with these.

The TVRM local heads back for East Chattanooga, seen here on the wye as they turned the train.

Restored Southern GP30 #2594 at TVRM. One of the best looking Highhood EMD's ever built, in one of the best paint schemes ever used (in my highly biased opinion ) Steam or diesel, TVRM is a class act in my book!

Lovely Photos! We were down there Thursday and I got some really good audio recordings from TVRM. They moved the GP30 back to Grand Junction. They also have that former NS GP-38 there with no prime mover in it.  ::)  We took a peek at old 4501 in the back shop and she's all in pieces, but in good hands.

This makes me a little home sick. No I don't want to return to work but need to visit Chattanooga this summer. I always liked Chattanooga and the folks at DeButts Yard. DeButts was always more friendly than Inman and Atlanta terminal. Trying to remember the name of that place in Red Bank I liked to eat at. Had the old Neon beer sing from the 50s. A chop steak with onions and gravy with a side of onion rings. No it was not healthy but it sure would fill you up. Add a few cold ones and it was the perfect meal. Will have to find where the crews stay now. Understand they moved since I retired.

You know me, I love the switcher shots, but when I saw the "Look ahead, look south " logo I couldn't help but remember how much that paint scheme made others look generic. Tuxedo scheme, on a shiny GP30 high hood, it's hard to beat that! Well done Mr Bell.

With NS getting back into the public entertainment business this year, maybe we could convince them to forgo the steam, take TVRM's GP30, team it up with the one at Spencer (and maybe the museum in Atlanta has one to??), grab a nice 75 car cut of money makers and run us a trip across the LS and South on the CS this summer...???

Yea..I know, go to bed and stop dreaming :)

Anybody know where NS is going to be running these passenger excursions?

I'd trade one of those new steam engines for 2 of the f units on the Kentucky Derby Train.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but the end cab switchers ("butt heads) were in my favorite shot of the series.
