A Couple of weekends ago, Carmon and myself took JREB Alabama's mod Ben Chapman up on his invitation to join him in Birmingham for a few days. It had been several years since I was in the area, and it was great to get back...even better with a expert tour guide!
We left the house early Friday morning (the 18th) and drove straight down to Decatur Al. The NS and CSX both use the same bridge there to cross the TN River, and it was one busy place. In the first hour we where there, we shot 5 moves across the bridge with great light. After a couple of hours, we headed on South (following the CSX...I know...I know..) to Birmingham, snagging a few shots at locations we had been told about.
We spent Friday Night, and all day Saturday in the Irondale, Birmingham area. The NS is one busy RR down there, and we where almost never without something to shoot. I finally finished sloshing through all of the NS stuff I shot on the trip, and got them up on Pbase last night.
Lots of EMD, a fair amount of UP, Amtrak, a smidge of KCS and even a few night shots for good measure! Its a busy place down that way, and I saw just enough to make me want to go back, and get out in the country more. Many thanks to Ben Chapman and the gang down there for all the good Southern hospitality!

Just one or two? lol
Seriously, every one of those 37 shots is a gem. You made me more than a little envious... so I guess this Yankee is going to make a pilgrimage there someday.
Well, Thank ya Matt!
We did shoot a little of that "off brand" RR on the way down...those few shots can be found here, if anyone needs a good laugh or just a reason to puke...Crash,Spill, and eXplode ya know :)
