Title: A snowy day on the Tier- February 26th

I was getting a pretty bad case of cabin fever by the time last weekend arrived, so I decided to cure that by spending a morning trackside with the Southern Tier Mainline. So what if it was cold and there was snow ground... I needed a fix of NS and got it. This westbound freight arrived around 10:40 AM.

I think this was the first train on the Tier since the snow ended in the early morning hours- note the snow flying out of the way as #9657 crosses Molasses Hill Road.

There was snow caked on both ends of #9657 and also on steps behind the cab, too.

The westbound freight took the siding at CP Linden, which is immediately west of Molasses Hill Road. I'm not sure why... since the next train didn't arrive until an hour later.

The depressed center flat car was interesting. I don't see them very often.

With the westbound freight rolling slowly down the siding, I expected to see another freight coming east... but about an hour passed after this shot.

After hearing a distant horn and the growing rumble of a couple locomotives pounding through the snow, the next train finally appeared around 11:40 AM.

The power for this train was big and red... so I knew immediately what it was: 38T. This is the daily joint CP/NS transfer run between Bison Yard and Binghamton.

The CP power was running elephant style. The engines have cleared the Molasses Hill Road crossing.

As 38T headed off into the distance, I realized I was very hungry and headed back to Rochester for lunch shortly after this shot was taken.
