Last weekend, the boss and myself left the house (just to get out) and wondered down towards Somerset and Burnside Ky. I wont complain to much about the forecast this time around, as I knew it was going to be a crap shoot at best, but after the week I had at work, a little time away with my favorite redhead and a few trains was a good thing, clouds or no clouds.
We only stayed out a few hours, bagged a few trains, got to take a drive on old US 27, and got to have a sit down lunch at the diner at Kings Mountain KY on the way home...if your ever in the area and have the time, that place makes the best double cheeseburger you can get in Casey county!
Here are my meager results from just killing a little time.. The whole set (a whopping 6 images) can be found on Pbase.. http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/nscs2eb11 (http://www.pbase.com/kd4jsl/nscs2eb11)
NS 40 a with a Deuce on the point passes under the brand new signal bridges at Burnside KY...

A Southbound manifest (197 I THINK..shows how much attention I was really paying) at the new CP Tateville with a paid of EMD's (I paid attention to that). This is view is from the top of the steep hill at Garlands Bend...that road is more fun than a box of redheads in the winter..trust me!

A rather late 167 drops down the hill between Norwood and Somerset, seen here under the SOUTHERN signal bridge, at a location the RR calls Cumberland Chair...

I just moved back to "our fair city" last week, is this type power the norm up here now? All I've seen even on the t19 are widebodys or six axles, and the few trains I see at work heading this way from Youngstown have similar horses. Didn't know if there were spots to catch different power.
T19 gets what even Danville or Louisville has laying around extra. This year I have seen everything from the usual 4 axle EMD to SD70M-2's to catfish. According to NS, there is no place a six axle cant go :)
Welcome back to the area! We will have to get together sometime soon and shoot or just shoot the bull!!
Hey that sounds great! I look forward to it, and you answered a question I was wondering about with that six axle comment, I wondered if they still worked that glass place with big power. And I'm always up for bull shootin ;D
Did you take that nice shot of the M-2 from an overpass there at Burnside? Looks like a mighty nice vantage point. Good work, EM! :o
Steve, that was shot on the side of Antioch Road with a lot of glass The road had to be moved a bit when NS added the two new "yard" tracks last year. That whole area has undergone a drastic face lift to accommodate the changes needed to start changing crews in Burnside instead of Danville.
The biggest change was the addition Two more tracks, which meant the Antioch cut also had to be widened. There is a bit more info and more pics from last year at this thread. http://www.jreb.org/ns/index.php?topic=9467.0
